Performing Arts Photographs Unite for Hatian Relief

Founded by photographer Jordana Zeldin, Headshots for Haiti is an initiative that seeks create a community of headshot photographers on both coasts who are committed to donating a portion of the proceeds from every photo shoot to Mercy Corps’ Haiti Earthquake Initiative with the goal of raising $10,000.

We have already seen tremendous enthusiasm from the performing arts community (read the feature article in Backstage here: http://tiny.cc/Z5H9c) and are eager to reach our fundraising target.

Photographers will regularly be contributing through this Headshots For Haiti Group page but we welcome contributions from anyone in the performing arts community and beyond. If you’re an actor, makeup artist, photo assistant, or simply a fan of theatre or the movies and want to make a contribution, this would be a good place to do so.

Headshots For Haiti

Last night, a photographer named Jordana Zeldin wrote me an e-mail with these words “You’re in!”.  From now, until the end of March, I will be participating in the Headshots For Haiti initiative and will be  donating 10% of all sales to a charity (for now it looks like Mercy Corp).  I, along with several other photographers, have made a goal to raise at least $10,000!

Mercy Corp is a charity that helps children cope with the psychological effects of the larger-than life trauma of loss and destruction in the wake of the earthquake.  This means a lot to me, and I knew I was in good company when Jordana wrote later on in the e-mail:

“I also can’t help but think about the “inner life” I learned about in my acting and directing training and how relevant that concept is to the work our clients do. So how about we as performing arts photographers commit to helping to rebuild the inner life of the future leaders Haiti? When I think about it, I realize it might be the single most important issue.”

Check out a few links about Mercy Corps:

I’ve thought and meditated about this a lot … considering the pros and cons.  I wanted to do something to help but hadn’t found a viable solution … until now.

Stay tuned for more exciting news from this exciting movement!

I once read a tweet, or a blog post, that said (and I paraphrase) “Photographers need to unite and stick together.  It’s a great way to get more business.  Who better to surround yourself with than other people doing the same thing you are.” I’ll quit quoting now because I want to reinforce that theory.  Photographers, artists, actors, musicians – whoever you may be – need to stick together.  Go to lunch with and question the heck out of someone in your field.  Learn, teach and support one another.  Give tips, advice, and technical instruction on how to get better.  In return, they’ll do the same to you.  They will make you better, by you making them better.  Everybody wins!

That being said, I want to plug an awesome photographer who I found on Twitter.  His name is Jack Hollingsworth and he is an amazing photographer.  His work art is colorful, vibrant and alive.  Jack’s blog, he writes about being patient, being a mirror, being YOU – it’s amazingly refreshing.  His “I Am” series on his blog is definitely worth a read.  And I’m soaking in his wisdom.  Basking in his knowledge.  I’m learning from a pro.  From @photojack.  And if you do take the time to go read his blog – I want you to soak and bask in the beautiful way he sees and shares the world.  And maybe try to see it, and share it, as beautiful as he.

I’ve posted a picture of my wife and child because I 1.) love them both enormously and want you to know that, and 2.) because I think it’s an awesome photo.  What do you think?

Peace,
-marc

I love taking pictures and creating beautiful art. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported my dream of being a full-time photographer. Your continued assistance is greatly appreciated and I thank you for helping my family and I do what we love.

Cheers,
-marc

Most weeks come and go, but this week is BIG! We have several things going on around the family business and I’m here to tell you about all of ‘em.

First things first, it’s my good friend Lucas Grabeel’s 25th Birthday today!. Lucas, along with our friend Mike encouraged me to move out to California to pursue my dream of being a photographer. I couldn’t have asked for 2 better friends and today I wanna say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Luc Dawg!

Second, tomorrow night at 7pm another friend of mine, Eric Baines is debuting his first live show on Ustream! The Eric Baines show will be a combination of musicians performing live, whacky interviews, and fun interactive live-ness. I will be manning the computer making sure everything goes smoothly so be sure to check into that tomorrow night!

On Wednesday Red Letterbox Productions is going to be launching. It’s been a long time coming but RLP is here for good. Red Letterbox Productions is a company that supports the people of the entertainment business. We cater to musicians, actors and all industry types to collaborate the highest quality, professional and creative art. Photos, websites, music production, graphic design – we do it all! Check out www.redletterboxproductions.com for the official site launch on Wednesday and always folllow us on Twitter @RedLetterboxPro and of course, become a fan on Facebook!

With all that going on Stacey, my beautiful and talented wife is getting more and more excited about her new business, Urban Lifestyle Photography. She’s learning more everyday of how to be a better business woman and photographer. I’d work with her NOW before she charges $10,000 a photoshoot! Come check out our newly designed studio and start consulting your next shoot soon! @Urban_Lifestyle & Facebook Fanpage!

And of course, I’m always looking for actors who need to update their headshots. I’ve worked with so many actors that I know what you want and need. I could care less about me in a headshot photoshoot, it’s allllll about you. Check out my website, my Twitter, and my Facebook Fanpage!

And…AND! If you need a webpage – send me an e-mail. :)

Hope you’re all well! Stay tuned this week and be sure to check everything out. You won’t regret it.

Peace!
